Currently the Principal Trombonist with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, Jeffrey Budin has also held principal trombone positions in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal (Canada), the Orquestra de la Ciutat de Barcelona (Spain), and the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Saint Louis Symphony, the Empire Brass, and the Summit Brass. In addition, he performs regularly with the San Francisco Opera, the San Francisco Symphony, the Saint Bart’s Music Festival (French West Indies) and tours internationally with the Portland based band “Pink Martini.”
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Jeffrey Budin studied composition, arranging, film scoring, jazz improvisation and trombone at the Dick Grove School of Music and Northwestern University. He can be heard on numerous recordings with the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, and the San Francisco Symphony as well as on many film sound tracks. His orchestral compositions have been performed by the Honolulu, Delaware, and the Lancaster (PA) Symphony Orchestras, and his jazz compositions have been performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival.
His other interests include physics, string theory, yoga, throat singing, DNA, fractals, and harmony.
