For 40 years now, you’ve thrilled to scores played by the critically acclaimed SF Ballet Orchestra in support of performances by our dancers. Now here’s your chance to hear the orchestra play just for you.
This special concert on March 25, 2016 at 8pm in the newly renovated Herbst Theatre will include Stravinsky’s Firebird (1945), one of the greatest ballet scores of all time; the world premiere of Conversations with Nijinsky by C.F. Kip Winger, who composed the music for Christopher Wheeldon’s haunting Ghosts©; Chausson’s ravishing Poeme for Violin and Orchestra featuring our acclaimed new concertmaster Cordula Merks as soloist; and Moszkowski’s Fackeltanz (Dance with Flares), a work the orchestra recorded on their most recent CD, just about to be released.
SF Ballet Orchestra Music Director & Principal Conductor Martin West had this to say:
“The Orchestra is proud of its accomplishments over the past 40 years, including two recent Grammy wins. We are thrilled to perform a special concert next month and I’ve selected four diverse pieces of music that showcase the musicians’ incredible versatility and depth of talent.”
So, tip your hats to the extraordinary musicians you enjoy season after season and buy your tickets today.
