We are pleased to announce that Wenyi Shih will be joining the SF Ballet Orchestra as Associate Concertmaster for the 2015-16 season. This one-year appointment follows the departure of our former Associate Concertmaster, Janice McIntosh, who retired at the end of the 2014-15 season.
More About Wenyi
A native of Taiwan, Wenyi Shih began her violin studies at the age of 8, with her great aunt, Sylvia Lee.
Wenyi went on to receive her Bachelor of Music degree from the Boston Conservatory on full scholarship, under the tutelage of Lynn Chang, While in the Northeast, Wenyi performed widely as an orchestral and chamber musician, including regular performances with the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra.
Since moving to the Bay Area, Wenyi has performed with many of the local orchestras and most recently has been an acting member of the San Francisco Opera Orchestra for the last 3 seasons. Wenyi is a fixture in the chamber music scene, having performed at the Noontime Concerts Series and Musical Sundaes, to name a few. She has been a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and has performed at the Musicorda and Mendocino Music Festivals.
Wenyi performs on a rare Carlo Antonio Testore violin, ca. 1740 and a Francois Nicholas Voirin bow.
In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, discovering new restaurants and recipes, and practicing her solfège to everything she hears. Wenyi lives in San Francisco with her husband, Eric Sung, their cat, Muffin and their multitude of orchids.
